Hey everyone! So I am aware at how terrible I can be not updating my blog as much as I would like to. With being out and about shooting weddings and then the post editing process... it takes up much of my time. However I am a facebook JUNKY and I always find time to get on fb and update my page or go "like" happy on peoples pages. It's terrible. I need help. BUT with that said... for the most updated work and most updates on what I'm up to please go onto my Shannon Sasaki Photography Facebook. I am ALWAYS updating that page and posting my latest work and just writing random thought in my head that most people probably don't need to know. lol But just letting you know, go on my facebook, LIKE my page, and check up on it once in a while and I guarantee updated work on there! :)

Mary + Tony Wedding
Mary + Tony. Eccentric. Witty. Exciting. This couple is nothing short of a surprise. What do I mean? Mary and Tony don't even come close to the word "Boring." I was always in for a surprise or something very out of the ordinary. That is EXACTLY what I LOVE! From having their pet chicken walk down the aisle to Tony coming out doing a fire dance for Mary, YES, a FIRE dance. This couple kept things funky fresh! Out of all the weddings I have done their vows to each other was by far the BEST I have ever heard... I was having such a hard time maintaining focus and taking pictures while wiping my eyes from the ridiculous tears that kept dripping down my face. Their love, respect and understanding for each other is so incredibly amazing. It blew me away. It was such an honor and privilege for me to be apart of your special day Mary and Tony and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for not only choosing me as your photographer, but for allowing me to witness such a love and capturing it for me to share with the rest of the world. There's someone out there for everyone and you both clearly found that person. Congratulations and I wish you both a very long and happy life together.

Meeting THE Jasmine Star!!
"I don't want my clients to just be satisfied customers. I want my clients to be evangelists for what I do!" - Jasmine Star
How do I start this blog? How am I supposed to write in words how EPIC, AMAZING, and BRILLIANT Jasmine Star is... IN PERSON! YES... In person!! I got to meet THE Jasmine Star; my all time favorite wedding photographer on this planet, in person! I am very aware that I sound like a 14 year old girl meeting Justin Bieber but I truthfully can't help it.
It was either late January or early February when I came across Jasmine Star's latest blog... "THE FIX" She was touring 12 different states (of course one of them not being Hawaii because NO ONE ever comes to Hawaii! lol) to inspire and motivate and help other fellow photographers in the industry and teach us how to better ourselves and our businesses. I was reading the list of different states and came across SAN FRANCISCO... "OMG I AM GOING TO BE IN SAN FRAN IN MARCH... PLEASE TELL ME SHE WILL BE THERE IN MARCH... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!" The Fix San Francisco: March 20, 2012. "You have got to be kidding me..." I had my san fran trip scheduled from March 14 - March 18. Missed it by 2 days... just 2! I sunk in my computer chair and had the biggest BUMMER moment ever.
A couple of days passed and I contemplated and thought about the idea of extending and buying my ticket but never did anything. I have this list. It's a list I made and wrote when I first took the plunge and started my photography business. It's a very short list but nonetheless it was a list with 4 things on it that I wanted to accomplish for my business. One of them was "Meet and learn from Jasmine Star" That's when it clicked. Without hesitation I called Delta and extended my trip and bought my ticket to The Fix. I sat there with the receipt up on my screen and I seriously teared. SO lame and SO cheese I know but its the truth. I knew I was going to be meeting the ONE person I have been wanting to meet and learn from for so long and I was also crossing another thing off my list.
March 20 came around and I went to The Fix seminar. Jasmine Star is everything and MORE that I imagined she would be and she truly is a BRILLIANT woman. It started with her presentation and then she opened the floor to us where we could go up one by one and ask her questions. So many GREAT questions were thrown on the stage and Jasmine answered EVERY question so gracefully and ALWAYS had the answers. I learned SO much from this seminar and went home with great knowledge, confidence and friends. :)
How I run my business is like how I live my life. Take a lot of risks and chances and do what feels right. It may not be right all the time but no one is perfect and that is how you learn. So many people try to shape themselves or their business into what they think others will like or approve of. That is the biggest mistake anyone could make. I do what works for me, I always have and I always will and Jasmine Star helped to defend that. She too does the same. I don't use 500 off camera flashes and 8 DSLR cameras strapped to me while I work. (totally being dramatic with that but just let me run with it lol) I don't only wear black when I arrive to work at a wedding and rather rock a fierce trendy pink top. I do meet clients at Starbucks. I truly go into meeting and working with my brides to also make a friend. These are just a few things that makes me, me and what makes my business work for me. It works for me. Because of that I have been managing to have brides contact me who are PERFECT fits for me. Our personalities, sense of humor, style and taste... very similar! My business... I keep it real and true to what I believe in and that is why I have been so lucky to have worked with so many AMAZING couples that I love so much and have become great friends with.
Thank you Jasmine Star for allowing me to see that being who you are and incorporating that into your business is perfectly fine. YOU are fabulous! :)

All Love Shoot....
It was about 4 years ago when I came up with this idea for a shoot. I developed it and found models (Most of them being very close friends of mine) to help me with this project and I couldn't have been more happy the way it came out. Most of you probably remember seeing these pictures and remember me posting it up at that time. The point of the shoot was to show LOVE. Raw and unedited love whether you be gay, straight, lesbian or bisexual. I truly believe the only way to make a statement and have people take you seriously or listen to you.. is to do something about it. I am a wedding photographer. I capture love and every aspect of it. I don't discriminate and my goal as a wedding photographer is to capture people's personal love story for them to relive each picture at a time. Now it is 2012 and here we are with "Civil Union" passed and "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" dismissed. I had a dream 4 years ago that this photoshoot would become a reality and love would not be looked at as gay love, straight love, or lesbian love... but as just love. I am happy to see these positive changes and couldn't be more proud to be a wedding photographer during this time. I have already shot one civil union and have another coming up in November. I look forward to many more and continuing my journey and path of capturing love for everyone that allows me to do so.

Awkward Pregnancy Pictures
Ok so if any of you really know me as a person/friend other than just a photographer you will know what kind of sense of humor I have. A past client I did pictures for recently posted on fb this link and when I clicked it... I had THE best laugh of my life followed by lot's of "Ohhh no she di'int" And "no No NO!!!" lol I own the book "Awkward Family Portraits" which I wrote a post on a while back. LOVE that book because the pictures are just SO awkward I have to laugh (because I don't like to cry but if I did then it would def make me cry lol) So this link is a spin off of Awkward Family Portraits and it is "Awkward Maternity Portraits" Enjoy!!

Jessica + Justin's Wedding
This wedding is very dear to me. What was supposed to be a smooth sailing and simple wedding turned to be a very stressful and hard weekend for this couple. They had a medical family emergency that almost had them flying back home asap, cancelling the wedding altogether. Luckily, everything worked out and they were able to have that beautiful wedding they both so deserved! It was a gorgeous day and the day was filled with smiles, laughter, and love. Jessica and Justin, I am glad that I was able to cover your wedding for you and enjoyed working with the both of you and your families! Have a beautiful and happy life together. :)
